It’s fair to say Gary Roebuck started the Wolves twice. In 1993 he jointly founded the club with Mancel Wood. Then in the mid-2000s, he was the man who brought the club back from a period of inactivity.
In the early days of the Wolves Gaz was a tough defender as well as the organisational linchpin of the club. He has the honour of scoring the club’s first ever goals and also lead in penalty minutes in those early days. After the club’s hibernation in the early 2000s, Gaz kick-started ball hockey again in Nottingham. First by starting a junior team with his son Danny as the core. This then lead to a Wolves reformation with former players blended with a new young group of players. What followed was unprecedented growth and success at the club.
Still playing league hockey until the 2016/17 season, Gaz is currently not playing, but nobody believes this will last. The only player to have his number retired (58), put in simple terms - No Gaz Roebuck, No Wolves!!
